In 2014, Aliya Rahman approached us to collaborate with her on a National Wildlife Federation project: a website to showcase how supply chain initiatives are supporting effective solutions for verified zero deforestation beef, leather, and tallow production in the Brazilian Amazon. The site, "A Path Towards Zero Deforestation Cattle," tells the story of Brazil's cattle industry, lends historical context, explains trade routes, reports on Holly Gibbs’ findings on the effectiveness of environmental initiatives, and ultimately gives us all some good news: significant progress has been made and things are getting better!
On a personal note, this project was incredibly rewarding. We loved working with Aliya and Shannon Turner, two incredible coders who also happen to be amazing women, and the website was intended to help draw greater attention to this important work. It's our hope that companies and individuals will join in to help support these efforts.
